Cannes in the Limelight Two
weeks a year, Cannes is in the world's spotlights. For more than fifty
years, the International Film Festival, 2nd
most important mediatic event on earth, has been promoting the city that
hosts it. Everybody
knows at least the Croisette boulevard, its stiff-standing palm trees, its
prestigious hotels and its exclusive shops, the "Suquet"
section, that is to say the old town of Cannes, overlooking the rest
of the city from the only eye of its clock-tower. From
the Croisette to the Suquet, there's a lot to see. A good hour walking
tour will take you from the fine sandy beaches to the convention center
surrounded with hundreds of movie stars' handprints and then , from the
Provençal "pétanque" playground to the panoramic "Castre" square, from where you can watch the whole
Bay of Cannes and the twin islands of Lérins : St Honorat and its
Cistercian monks' community, St Marguerite and the prison of "the Man
in the Iron Mask". The
"Forville" indoor market, its nice smells, irresistible at lunch
time, and its daily crowd will put a nice end to this walking tour. From
then on, some free time can be given to wander an the nearby pedestrian
zone. Of
course, this half-day tour (maximum duration is 4 hours comprised between
8.00 am and 12.00 pm) can start from Cannes, but also from Nice that is a
mere half -an-hour drive from Cannes by the Motorway. As a
full-day tour (maximum duration is 9 hours comprised between 8.00 am and
7.00 pm), Cannes can be perfectly combined with Grasse and St Paul,
Antibes or Nice (see descriptions in the corresponding pages ). Conditions
