The Italian Riviera and the Border Area Everyday,
that's nearly 3000 Italians, that comme and work in Monaco. No wonder,
Ventimiglia, the Italian border town, is a 30' drive from the
Principalité,
and San Remo, 2nd
largest town in Liguria with 65 000 inhabitants, is just an hour away. Tours
to Vintimiglia and San Remo are always proposed on market days, that is to
say on Friday to Ventimiglia, on Tuesday and Saturday to San Remo ; they
start from Monaco, from Nice, less often from Cannes, considering, it's a
longer ride (an earlier departure would obviously be needed). Those
tours, providing an easy access to another country of the European
Community, enable to combine the discovering of an Italian style Riviera (lazier,
more hectic and, above all, lusher, less urbanised than the French
Riviera) to the pleasure of
shopping either in a big lively Market (bags, shoes, clothes, jewels, food…),
where bargaining is still advised, or in nice shops, where the whole range
of the famous Italian brands is found (Gucci & Fendi, Versace, Armani,
Annamode…). The Italian shops closing round 1.00 pm and not reopening
before 4.00 pm, half-day tours can be proposed (maximum duration is 4
hours comprised between 8.00 am and 12.00) ; a full-day tour (maximum
duration is 9 hours comprised between 8.00 am and 7.00 pm) suits very well
also ; it would include a
typical Italian meal on site (antipasti, etc…) and an afternoon return
along the very scenic sea side road, with, for example, an eventual stop
in Menton, the French border-town. Conditions
